2014 Corvette Stingray Pricing Undercuts Porsche Cayman, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

U.S. News and World Report
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe, which goes on sale in the third quarter of this year, will have a starting price of $51,995 that includes $995 in delivery charges, Chevrolet announced Friday in a press release. The Chevrolet Stingray Convertible will start at $56,995, which also includes delivery charges.
The Los Angeles Times reports, “Both models reflect a $1,400 increase over the outgoing Corvette. That extra money buys you a lot of changes, not the least of which is the controversial styling.” The styling the Los Angeles Times is referring to is the new, angled taillights over the outgoing, round lights. Through this change, the newspaper says that Chevrolet is trying to appeal to a more international audience and younger car shoppers.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is priced significantly less than the Nissan GT-R and Audi R8, and slightly less than the Porsche Cayman. The Washington Post calls it a “bargain” compared to the Porsche 911 Carrera S that makes 400 horsepower with a six-cylinder engine and has a starting price of $98,900. The Porsche Boxster is priced closer to the Corvette Stingray at $50,400, but its six-cylinder engine only produces 265 horsepower. The new Corvette Stingray is also commonly compared to the 2014 Ford Mustang’s performance model, the Shelby GT500, which starts at $54,650.
According to USA Today, the Corvette Stingray continues to be an affordable car for its segment.
Standard features on the 2014 Corvette Stingray include: a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces an estimated 450 horsepower, a seven-speed manual transmission with rev matching, eight-way power-adjustable seats, a carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber removable roof panel (coupe only), an 8-inch infotainment screen, a rearview camera, a Bose nine-speaker audio system with satellite radio, Bluetooth, an auxiliary input and a USB port and keyless entry with push-button start. The 2014 Corvette Stingray can be optioned to a price of more than $73,000.
