Wheels Could Fall off Some Cadillac SRX SUVs

“Drive it until the wheels fall off.” This is probably not what General Motors had in mind for its Cadillac SRX SUV. The automaker is recalling almost 19,000 SRX crossovers in the U.S. from the 2013 model year with 18-inch wheels because their wheel nuts might not be tightened sufficiently, which could cause the wheels to fall off, the Associated Press reports.
Reuters writes, “GM said on Wednesday it knows of no crashes or injuries due to the issue and that no wheels have separated from the sport utility vehicles built on car-based platforms.”
According to The Detroit News, drivers might hear “creaking, rattling or grinding noises from the wheels or steering vibrations” due to the loose wheel nut problem. The automaker will contact owners of affected 2013 Cadillac SRX crossovers starting early next month, and dealers will rotate the vehicle’s tires and properly install and tighten the lug nuts free of charge.
