Subaru Unveiling First Hybrid Vehicle and New High-Performance Concept at New York Auto Show

Subaru will introduce the XV Crosstrek Hybrid at the New York International Auto Show March 28. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid will be the automaker’s first hybrid vehicle.
Autoweek reports that the all-wheel drive XV Crosstrek Hybrid will use “technology based on Toyota Motor Corp.'s hybrid system.”
Small SUVs are not common among hybrid SUVs, which are generally midsize and large models. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid would be one of the only compact hybrid SUVs, in addition to the 2013 Audi Q5 Hybrid. The Toyota RAV4 EV is the only other alternative fuel compact SUV on the market right now.
Subaru also announced yesterday it will debut “an all-new performance concept car.” Car and Driver thinks it will be “the next-generation WRX, due later this year.”
Full specs, features and pricing information for the XV Crosstrek Hybrid have not been released yet, but the gas-only 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek, which debuted for the 2013 model year, starts at $21,995 and has a four-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru hasn’t announced when the XV Crosstrek Hybrid will go on sale.
